Kajabi / RAILS PERFORMANCE OPTIMIZATION
Kajabi Experts: faster SQL processing, usable pages
Optimized the Rails data path for unusable pages. The Ruby-versus-SQL processing benchmark showed 79.74× higher throughput; separately, the article reports page loading falling from over 30 seconds to 300ms.
THE EXISTING PRODUCT
Performance optimization for the Kajabi Experts product
Kajabi Experts had launched as an MVP, but some pages had become so slow that end users could not open them. WideFix took ownership of the performance issue and worked with Kajabi to make the product responsive again.
An MVP page had become unusable for some end users. Targeted Rails and SQL optimization restored a responsive experience without replacing the product or its framework.
THE BUSINESS CHALLENGE
Find and fix the slow path in Rails
We investigated how the page assembled its data, identified the most expensive application and database work, and planned targeted changes. The focus was on making the data processing more efficient in SQL while preserving the page's existing behavior.
The MVP had shipped without enough attention to performance. As a result, some important pages took so long to respond that they were effectively unavailable to users. That created a poor first impression and made the product harder to adopt.
THE WORK WE DELIVERED
Improve the product. Keep the business moving
- 01
Analyze the slow page and prioritize bottlenecks
We took ownership of the issue, analyzed the slow page and its Rails data path, then prioritized the changes most likely to improve response time. The work focused on efficient database querying rather than replacing the framework or rebuilding the product.
- 02
Optimize the data path and verify the result
We moved expensive Ruby-side processing into SQL and checked that the page returned the expected data. The published benchmark compares processing throughput: SQL achieved 451.144 iterations per second versus 5.658 for Ruby, a 79.74× improvement. Separately, the article reports page loading falling from over 30 seconds to 300ms; that observation is not the processing benchmark.
VALUE FOR THE BUSINESS
Kajabi Experts: Rails Performance Optimization: the results
The published 79.74× result measures Ruby-versus-SQL processing throughput, not end-to-end page performance. The article separately reports a page-load change from over 30 seconds to 300ms, without documenting the browser, device, network or timing method. No LCP, INP or CLS measurements are published, so these results do not establish a Core Web Vitals improvement.
