Connecting procurement with emissions tracking

DitchCarbon needed a SAP Ariba integration to track procurement emissions. Andrei Kaleshka, WideFix’s founder, handled the solutions architecture and implementation himself, coordinating with the DitchCarbon founder and the SAP teams involved.

The application’s backend used Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL. The integration connected a REST API on the DitchCarbon side with a SOAP API on the SAP Ariba side.

A successful integration requires a complete technical picture and clear communication across teams. WideFix founder Andrei Kaleshka brought those together, independently handling the architecture and implementation while coordinating with DitchCarbon and SAP.

Finding a workable path across multiple teams

Responsibility for the integration was distributed across several teams on the SAP side. Communication gaps led to conflicting guidance, including suggested implementation directions that turned out to be unsuitable.

What needed to change

Implementing individual instructions was not enough. Andrei needed to understand the complete integration picture, reconcile the guidance with the documentation, and coordinate the implementation with the people responsible on both sides.

  1. 01

    Understand the complete integration architecture

Andrei worked through the integration documentation to understand the whole picture and identify a workable implementation approach. The integration connected DitchCarbon’s REST API with SAP Ariba’s SOAP API, using a Ruby on Rails backend and PostgreSQL. This required solutions architecture: connecting the business goal with the technical requirements instead of treating each instruction in isolation.

  2. 02

Coordinate teams and deliver the integration

Andrei coordinated with the DitchCarbon founder and SAP teams as the implementation progressed, working through misunderstandings and conflicting directions. Combining that communication with a complete understanding of the documentation enabled him to deliver the integration.
